Medicaid is an income-based assistance program that helps pay for medical care.

Often it means the difference between having your loved one in a nursing facility and remaining comfortably in their own home. Applying for services can seem like a maze… applications, screening, eligibility, functional status, UAI, Plans of Care…but rest easy, BestCare’s Medicaid team will help you navigate through the process from start to finish.

Medicaid Waivers allow the elderly and people with disabilities to receive care in the community instead of in an institution. If you or a loved one have already qualified and are receiving benefits under the Virginia Medicaid program and are interested in receiving in-home care services you would contact Social Services in the county in which you live. If you do not have Medicaid, the first step would be to complete an application for Medicaid and indicate on the application that you would like long-term care services. Agency – Directed or Consumer Directed Services

Medicaid Waiver services are designed to provide assistance to the primary caregiver by allowing an aide to come in to their home and care for their loved one for several hours per day.

Under Agency-Direction, these services are delivered by a trained aide who is employed by BestCare. All of our aides attend a comprehensive orientation program, they are screened by our human resource department and undergo a state criminal background check. The aide is hand-picked by our Medicaid team to ensure compatibility with their client.

Under Consumer-Direction (CD), the recipient or a family member “employs” the attendants who provide the care; they are paid by Medicaid on a bi-weekly basis. The Service Facilitator at Best Care will guide you through the CD process and provide on-going support to the recipient, their family and their attendants.
