Emergency Preparation for Crisis or Emergency – Hurricane Sandy
Emergency Preparation at BestCare Home Care
As the remnants of Hurricane Sandy continue to pummel the East Coast and points west, we have been fielding calls from concerned family members about how we prepare to help our patients and clients during emergencies like this. Our entire BestCare Home Care team is trained and ready to assist anytime there is a crisis, and all of our staff is trained in emergency preparation and response. These are a few of the ways in which we prepare, and are proud to be ready to handle the ongoing storm and its consequences so that our clients and patients continue to receive the care they need and deserve at all times, no matter what.
Northern Virginia home care agencies are required to have a state-approved evacuation plan for the patients they care for. BestCare has evacuation plans ready to go, if the need arises, for each of our patients. This includes making sure the patient has a safe place to go to, with all of their medical equipment, prescriptions etc.
Emergency Stay Plans
In the event of an emergency, we have safe lodging locations around the area where we can take our clients and patients. These facilities have been weather-proofed and come equipped with emergency generators and outlets throughout. Please call us at 703-497-2273 to learn which location would be the closest for your family member.
72-Hour Food and Water Supplies
In most emergencies, the first 72 hours are the hardest and most critical ones to endure. Our emergency preparedness policies ensure that each client is ready with a 72-hour emergency supply of food and water, as well as oxygen and critical medical supplies.
Our skilled, licensed nurses keep track of each patient’s medications and ensure that there are enough of them for the duration of the emergency.
Each of our home care team members has a current list of contact information for local utility companies (gas, electric, phone).
Of course we always have skilled, caring staff on call 24/7 even during non-emergency times. During emergencies, however, our leadership team is at the helm to help each of our patients and their families navigate the emergency successfully.
Here at BestCare Home Care, our team of compassionate, skilled caregivers is ready to weather the storm with you. We have emergency preparedness plans in place and active right now and for the duration of the crisis. Do not hesitate to call us immediately at 703-497-2273 if your family member needs help.
